alocispepraluger102 Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) i just heard a new, to me, saxophonist, andy laster. his thing seems to be a very adventurous, but very elegant chamber jazz. most of that type of music quickly falls flat with me, but this guy seems much more interesting, with a lovely lovely tone. does anyone know anything about andy? Joe Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 (edited) Have not spun them in a while, but my memories of both POLYOGUE (Songlines, 1997) and SOFT SHELL (Knitting Factory, 2000) -- both with the always-colorful Herb Robertson, Drew Gres and Tom Rainey -- are warm. What has Laster been up to lately? Edited January 12, 2010 by Joe Quote

Alexander Hawkins Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I'm not really familiar with much of his music, but I will vouch for Harris Eisenstadt's fantastic album Jalolu, where Laster sounds great. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 I haven't yet heard Jalolu, but it sounds interesting. Quote
Alexander Hawkins Posted January 12, 2010 Report Posted January 12, 2010 Really interesting companion to Guewel, for sure! Quote
