mjzee Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I'd like to construct a website where I can post family photos. My needs are fairly simple: 1) Some control over the layout of the page; I'd like to write captions under the pictures. 2) A home page with various folders (subcategories) of specific topics 3) A login and password for the site. Does anyone know a good solution? I don't see where Photobucket, Picasa, etc., can do all of this. Any advice would be much appreciated. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I've had good luck with the (free) software from Zenphoto. I'm not sure that this meets all of your criteria -- I used it for a high school reunion web site, so #3 wasn't necessary. But, I'm pretty sure it does support login/password. Good luck! Quote
BFrank Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I use Picasa (the downloadable software) for organizing and uploading. It's then a seamless process to upload to Picasa Web Albums or Facebook or even send email attachments. You also can some amount of rudamentary photo editing. I'm not sure what you are looking for as far as page layout, but you can create "albums" (which I think is your #2 question) and write captions under photos. You can also keep them private and distribute individual links to each album to only those people who you want to see them. Quote
neveronfriday Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 (edited) Zenphoto is best. I've used it for a ton of sites. The people who took over this project from the guy who originally programmed it are very dedicated to updating, improving and expanding the program code. You have to run it on your own server or a hosted one though. Picasa is limited to 1 GB, as far as I remember. If you have more photos you want on it, you have to pay. If you set an album to "private" (or whatever they call it over there, can't remember right now), only those people who have the link to it can see the photos. Others have no way of accessing the album(s). I have some albums over there and they are well-protected. Works. Edited February 4, 2010 by neveronfriday Quote
aparxa Posted February 4, 2010 Report Posted February 4, 2010 I use PhpWebGallery, pretty easy to install and to manage on a personal website (subfolders, logins, captions). i don't like the design much but I haven't spend a lot of time on the Setting details. Quote
