paul secor Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 Didn't know that King and Goffin wrote that one. They sure wrote a lot of great songs. Quote

Alexander Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 (edited) My personal favorite Righteous Brothers song. This is my favorite bit, right near the end... Bill - That old pot of gold Ain't so easy to find Bobby - But if you'll stand by me Girl, I'll keep peace of mind Bill - I can't give you the world But I will work hard for you, girl Yes, I'll work hard... Bobby - Everyday! Bill - ...All my life... Bobby - You will see! Bill - ...If you won't leave me... Bobby - Baby, don't leave! Bill - Please don't leave me! Bobby - Oh no, don't leave! Both - Just do this for me, baby! Edited May 10, 2010 by Alexander Quote
GA Russell Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 I always preferred Just Once in My Life to You've Lost That Loving Feeling, but I've always felt that it was because Feeling was beaten to death on the radio and Life was not. If the roles had been reversed, I'm confident that I would have liked Feeling more. Quote

felser Posted May 10, 2010 Report Posted May 10, 2010 My personal favorite Righteous Brothers song. Mine too. Certainly something of a "redo" of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'", but even better. In the same sense at the same time, I've always felt "Hurt So Bad" by Little Anthony & The Imperials was an even better redo of "Goin' Out of My Head". And they were all on the radio in the same period, Fall/Winter of '64 through Spring of '65. Talk about a golden era. Quote
JSngry Posted May 10, 2010 Author Report Posted May 10, 2010 A "redo" in terms of arrangement, and maybe general melodic contour, but those lyrics...like "Poor Side Of Town" only darker, maybe. Or maybe Bill Medley was by definition darker than Johnny Rivers? And let's give fullest props to Spector on this one..that shit is magic, pure magic, as in "cannot occur in nature". Quote

Fully agree on all points. Reminds me that I also like "Bernadette" even better than "Reach Out, I'll Be There", and it's a MUCH darker song. Bernadette, they want you because of the pride that it gives, But Bernadette, I want you because I need you to live. But while I live only to hold you, Some other men, they long to control you. But how can they control you Bernadette, when they can not control themselves, Bernadette, from wanting you, needing you, But darling you belong to me. In you I have what other men long for. All men need someone to worship and adore, that's why I treasure you and place you high above, for the only joy in life is to be loved. So whatever you do, Bernadette, keep on loving me, Bernadette, keep on needing me, Bernadette. Quote
JSngry Posted May 11, 2010 Author Report Posted May 11, 2010 Yeah, Bernadette is another one... "how can they control you when they can not control themselves"...that's something right there... Quote
