Jim Alfredson Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 I'm putting this in the Organissimo Band Discussion forum because it touches on many aspects of what we, as organissimo the band, are going through right now putting together our sophomore record. That is, production, home recording, demoing tunes, working things out, doing things the best way we can, the freedom and resulting slavery of technology, etc. This guy is amazing. He talks about everything from his beginnings at Motown and the Motown sound and production line, to general 50s and 60s music and musicians, to Stevie Wonder, to what's wrong with modern music and the big labels, to Indian music and everything inbetween. Too many beautiful ideas to quote, you just have to read it yourself. Especially my band-mates! This inspired me to not only continue my quest to become a better musician but also a discriminating and cognizant engineer for the trio. Interview with Bob Ohlsson Don't fret all the technical stuff and gear talk if you don't dig that stuff. It gets real deep real fast! Quote
Joe G Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 A couple of points reminded me of that Metheny interview we listened to the other night, especially the fact that despite all this technology we have, you still have to have music that works in the first place. And you need to be able to perform it! I was suprised to read that he had been involved with Stephen Hill. Loved his comments about MTV, too. Quote
