romualdo Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 Just received this email from the Dolphy newsgroup (Alan Saul) *This message was transferred with a trial version of CommuniGate® Pro* I got a call from Joan Weinstock, who was married to Bob of Prestige fame. She has the original oil painting by Richard "Prophet" Jennings that he used for the cover of Outward Bound, and is interested in selling it. She says it's about 15 inches square. I told her that I'd spread the word, and if anybody has real interest in purchasing it (I have no idea about price) contact me and I'll pass your contact information along to her. I see that prints of this are offered for over $100, e.g. http://www.art.com/products/p15180500-sa-i3604884/eric-dolphy-quintet-outward-bound.htm and those have the text on top of the art. She has many stories about Bob and related a couple to me. He of course sold the company in the early 70s to Fantasy, and she says he mostly played the stock market after that early retirement, with a bit of producing people like Duffy Jackson and Dr. Lonnie Smith. He didn't fly and liked to stay at home. He died penniless in January 2006. Don't give up your royalties! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Weinstock On another but slightly related topic, get ready to celebrate the 50th anniversary of 21 December. Rooster_Ties Posted December 6, 2010 Report Posted December 6, 2010 The American Jazz Museum here in KC probably doesn't have the money, and surely it's too rad for their fairly conservative vision of what jazz is. Or rather, how old something needs to be -- in order to be 'old enough' to need to be preserved in a museum. Quote
