Sad news; I only knew him for his warbling and for holding a glass of tea while he fell into a pool but reading the obit gives an appreciation for what he did on the field before he went into the booth.

He was a very funny guy. I recall a time when Gifford told a story about when Kathie Lee had told him that she was expecting. A short period of silence, then Meredith says, "Don't you worry, Frank, we're gonna catch that SOB who did this to her". Gifford really liked Dandy.

If he never did anything other than turning Howard Cosell into a pin cushion on Monday Night Football, he would still be well thought of. That he did so much more, including some passable acting, just made him all that much more interesting.

Dandy Don. R.I.P.

Dandy Don made MNF fun to watch.

A perfect foil for Howard Cosell's arrogance and straight man Frank Gifford.

"Turn out the lights the party's over..."

RIP, Mr. Meredith.

The only Dallas Cowboy I ever liked. RIP.

Yeah, that sums it up for me. The first pro football game I ever watched was the Ice Bowl with Meredith's Cowboys against the Packers. Of course, I was only 9, so he seemed like an old man then to me!

Yeah, the ice bowl was the first game I really can say I remember watching.

One year my dad went to an auto dealership promotional thing, and he brought home a signed B&W of Chuck Howley. At the time I thought how square the guy looked, what with that crew cut hair. Later I realized what a great athlete he was too.
