I have been listening to Cyrus Chestnut lately and I am blown away by him! :excited:

His "Soul Food" (2001) is incredible and includes as sidemen McBride, Stefan Harris & James Carter.

But now it got me thinking. . . . is Cyrus the reincarnation of Art Tatum? I'm sure somebody out there knows the truth! :g

Soul Food is excellent.

I'd also suggest Manhattan Trinity + 1: A Love Story.

This is a Japanese issue with Chestnut, Mraz, Nash & special guest Eric Alexander.

A little pricey but worth it IMO.

Certainly not, got too much New Orleans piano in 'em.

Dig him, but I think he is far from his greatest yet. Much more to come.

Chestnut is very good but...NO! He's good, but not THAT good...

TATUM???? That's going a bit far, but I love Chestnut. Soul Food is one of his best, but I would also recommend his first Atlantic album, Revelation. And his 1995 album, Earth Stories, is worth a few dozen listens. Also, he kicks ass live.

Just caught him live right here in Lansing (Okemos, actually). With Rodney Whitaker and Randy Gilespie. Very good show, with a nice mix of blues ballads and cookers. Good feelings all around. :rlol

I interviewed him a couple of months ago--very nice guy. One thing I didn't know about him was that he actually has quite a lot of experience playing Fender Rhodes.
