Joe Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 (edited) "Sensitive Skin’s Sir Andre Bemler writes about the release of a rare recording of a Sun Ra lecture during his stint as a Berkeley professor in 1971—Herman “Sonny” Blount was artist-in-residence at the University of California campus that spring, and apparently taught a course listed as “Sun Ra 171” but also called “The Black Man in the Universe,” or “The Black Man In the Cosmos.”" http://www.poetryfoundation.org/harriet/2011/05/listen-to-sun-ras-berkeley-lecture/ Direct link: http://blog.sensitiveskinmagazine.com/2011/professor-sun-ra/ Edited May 9, 2011 by Joe Quote
sidewinder Posted May 9, 2011 Report Posted May 9, 2011 “Apparently there was always some confusion regarding the course, and students had difficulty in picking up books from the required reading list, although one listing, The Source Book of Man’s Life and Death (i.e, The Bible, ‘King James’), whose author was listed as ‘God,’ was available from ‘numerous’ publishers.” Love it ! jazzbo Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 When I heard that lecture on Transparency I decided not to pursue Sun Ra's philosophical thoughts because it turned me off and away from him. His shtick seemed so full of nonsense, especially his word derivation thing. I've followed that direction away from his spoken or written philosophy, happily. Quote
