mrjazzman Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Trying to complete Lee Morgan as a sideman. Saw "Gene Harris and the Three Sounds" in AMG. Does anyone know anything about or seen this LP anywhere. Thanks Quote
tranemonk Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Off the top of my head... I don't think he recorded with The Three Sounds... Quote
JSngry Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Just looked at AMG & this is the album in question (BST 4378): Per AMG, there is a version of "The Sidewinder" on it, so Morgan probably should have gotten a composer, not performer, credit. AMG also gives Billy Harper a performer credit for this album, though, so I don't know...maybe for that one cut? Dan? Quote
JSngry Posted June 18, 2011 Report Posted June 18, 2011 Looks like they don't even do Sidewinder on it, so I don't know what happened at AMG... Quote
Dan Gould Posted June 19, 2011 Report Posted June 19, 2011 Without looking too closely, I would wager that AMG took info from a Bobbi Humphrey LP and associated it with this LP. I remember wanting to track the Humphrey LP down back when I was still the Mogie Man. I'm virtually certain Lee never recorded with the Sounds, with the possible exception that Bill Dowdy told me that Lee Morgan, among other players passing through, jammed with the band at the Boddie Recording studio in Cleveland, and that the owner of the studio ran tape while they jammed. alankin Posted June 23, 2011 Report Posted June 23, 2011 AMG used to be a topnotch outfit, don't know what happened............... From what I've seen over the years, they've always had their fair share of errors in their listings. Quote
