greggery peccary Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 I'm about six shows (18 or so CDs) into this set and all I can say is "WOW!" As a casual listener of the Dead, I've come to determine the early '70s is my favorite era and '72 has always jumped out. Stellar set lists and a band at the height of their powers. 22 shows over 73 CDs would certainly be overkill for most groups but not the GD. The extended "Dark Stars" really speak to their ability to take things to the edge, something that really appeals to my jazz sensibilities. Absorbing this will be a project that will certainly stretch into 2012. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 Well, I wouldn't be surprised if a moderator doesn't come along to point out there's a Grateful Dead thread where this probably beglongs. I'm not he! I debated getting this set and caved and mine has not yet arrived, I think it's on the way, but it's hard to tell with dead.net. From all the reports on the Hoffman board it's a winner! Europe '72 was one of my favorite of the official releases of the time, and I've all the other officially released material from this tour, and some audience recordings. Looking forard to this! Quote
bertrand Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 I had the 3-LP set and I think it was my favorite of their records but holy crap, how much is this set? Bertrand. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 (edited) You can't buy it now. It's sold out. Was 450. I think you may be able to buy the music only version, 73 discs, for the same price. Doesn't have the trunk, book, etc. That was limited to, I believe, 7200 copies. Sold out literally in days. mr jazz Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 lots of sets on ebay. you might be able to get it for under $500. I'm getting Vol 2 for $12 from amazon at this point but will keep my eyes open if I see a deal on the set. I have so much Dead anyway Quote
jazzbo Posted September 4, 2011 Report Posted September 4, 2011 So does everyone who is interested in this set. I don't think Bertrand is going to buy a copy. Quote
vajerzy Posted September 5, 2011 Report Posted September 5, 2011 Waiting for mine to arrive. People bitching about the lack of goodies in it. I'm looking forward to listening to the music. Quote
jazzbo Posted September 25, 2011 Report Posted September 25, 2011 The music sounds fantastic! Best sounding live Dead yet imo. Quote
