romualdo
I've just finished reading "rat race blues" & listening to the recent uptown GG CD. Repeated themes of sadness & frustration abound but also very uplifting (just like Kelly's recent Monk tome) Interesting to see that the Mercury "Reminiscin" sessions (including 2 unreleased titles) have never been released on CD (not even Japan). I think this would be a great potential Mosaic "single" release (or even stretch it out, with other sessions, to a Mosaic select) Anyone agree? going through a Gigi Gryce phase at present
J.A.W.
Why don't you contact Mosaic and suggest a Gryce Single?
JETman
The Mosaic Single is dead according to Scott.
J.A.W.
The Mosaic Single is dead according to Scott. I'm not surprised. I guess the Singles didn't appeal half as much to jazz fans as the big sets or the Selects, and probably hardly sold.
colinmce
While there were no "bad" titles per se in the series, and in fact some were very, very good I found the selections to ultimately be a bit odd. I'm a big fan of "mainstream", but this accounted for a bulk of the releases to me. While I applaud them for going outside the hard bop box, they might've gone a little too far.
