JSngry Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHtUcr5srWw Live, Tanya wobbles, but Little Richard hangs tight. As befits a god, Little Richard is equal parts eternal spectacle and eternal omnipotence. Woe be to those who fail to recognize either, and especially to those who fail to recognize either. Quote
Ted O'Reilly Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 I feel duped! "Somethin' Else", but no Cannonball? No Miles? Why, I oughta... Quote
JSngry Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 Little Richard was firing them cannonballs, & Tanya Tucker has plenty of miles on her, so I'd say it's at least as much as advertised. Quote
DukeCity Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 If I don't look at the videos, TT sounds OK on these. But in both the studio footage and the TV date, she just looks so uncomfortable/out-of-place that it's more than a little distracting. Quote
JSngry Posted September 12, 2011 Author Report Posted September 12, 2011 Indeed. But I (as in a band I was in) once opened a show for her, and I think that to say that she herself was "distracted" would be putting it mildly... Put her in front of a mike, though, and she gets into that Brenda-Lee-Carrying-Her-Own-Condoms zone really nicely, and stays there. Away from he mike, though... Quote
medjuck Posted September 12, 2011 Report Posted September 12, 2011 Loved this! Is it a T Bone Burnette production? However I wish on these all star duet recordings they'd sing together instead of just exchanging choruses. (Though that works in this case.) I think often it's because the singers aren't in the same room at the same time. Quote
JSngry Posted September 13, 2011 Author Report Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) Not T-Bone Burnette. Don Was (the new blue note guy) & Tony Brown. From 1994's Rhythm Country & Blues, a stealthy little superstar album that works really nicely - when it works. Much to its enduring credit, it was heartily and wholly un-embraced by both Country & R&B radio. Still in print, details here: http://en.wikipedia....untry_and_Blues Check the George Jones birthday thread for the duet between Jones & BB on "Patches"...and check out this one. Talk about a logical conclusion... Edited September 13, 2011 by JSngry Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 I hate the phoney production crap - in the booth, together, etc. Geez! Used to be folks thought the music alone was more than enough. Quote
JSngry Posted September 13, 2011 Author Report Posted September 13, 2011 Used to be, yeah..but video killed the radio star. Personally, I think charges should be brought, but it ain't my world. Quote
