Teasing the Korean Posted September 13, 2011 Report Posted September 13, 2011 I asked this in another thread but it may have gotten buried there. Can anyone tell me about the sound quality of either the CD or vinyl reissue(s) of the Doug Hammond and David Durrah "Reflections in the Sea of Nurnen?" I find that vinyl reissues of recent dacades have been dodgy. Do you know if either is from the master tapes or from an inferior source? The mp3 album sounds like it's sourced from vinyl. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted September 18, 2011 Author Report Posted September 18, 2011 Well, in case anyone is curious, I plunked down some bucks for the Japanese CD reissue with mini LP sleeve. Haven't listened all the way through, but skipped around to some quiet passages. If it's not from the master tapes, it sounds like they used a very clean vinyl source. Definitely much better than the mp3 version available in the US. Quote
mikeweil Posted September 18, 2011 Report Posted September 18, 2011 Why not ask Doug about it? He now lives and teaches in Linz, Austria, and is doing fine: http://www.doughammond.org/ Quote
webbcity Posted September 21, 2011 Report Posted September 21, 2011 Glad to hear that the CD sounds good. I picked up the vinyl reissue a while back and was very pleasantly surprised-- it sounds fabulous. For less than $10 too! There may be some quality control issues...my first copy was warped. But the sound and pressing quality are really quite good. Quote
