Hardbopjazz Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 (edited) Over the summer I caught the Heath Brothers at the Vanguard. I asked Jimmy Heath if he knew if Columbia has any plans to release any of those sessions on CD. He laughed and said something like, "probably after I'm dead. I doubt it very much you'll ever see them on CD." This is somewhat odd that Columbia keeps these in the vaults. These sessions were all big sellers in terms of jazz. I do have two of these on albums and not only is there a good amount of straight ahead jazz, but some crossover tunes that would reach a wider audience. Any thoughts as to why these have never been issued on CD? Edited September 16, 2011 by Hardbopjazz Quote
relyles Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 Expressions of Life and In Motion were reissued on a Collectables twofer. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted September 16, 2011 Author Report Posted September 16, 2011 Really? I didn't know that. I guess it is long out of print. Quote
relyles Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 It was a 2001 release, but it does appear to be readily available on amazon for as low as $15. Quote
JSngry Posted September 16, 2011 Report Posted September 16, 2011 ...not only is there a good amount of straight ahead jazz, but some crossover tunes that would reach a wider audience. On the first album, anyway, those "crossover" tunes are, for me, of much greater musical interest than the "straight ahead" ones. There's some real compositional & orchestrational ingenuity on display there. Quote
