alocispepraluger102 Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 (edited) a lawyer told me that he thought the most powerful person that many laypeople would ever come across in their lifetimes is the highest level trial court judge in their local jurisdiction. they can jail just about anyone who comes before them at least temporarily. They generally have broad sentencing power. they can impose the death penalty on a convicted murderer even where the jury has recommended life in prison. they can send a sheriff out to pick up anyone they desire. the list goes on and on. they run for 6 year terms so they are often out in the community. do you know your local judges? do you think many people do? i'm either proud or ashamed to mention that i know none of our locals. skeletons in the closet satchmo http://www.youtube.c...h?v=Ae5WtA_Oqfs witches and devils http://www.youtube.c...h?v=00mt-CNeGyo Edited October 31, 2011 by alocispepraluger102 Quote

jazzbo Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I've met several Texas Supreme Court Justices. But I don't know my "local judge." Quote
JSngry Posted October 31, 2011 Report Posted October 31, 2011 I grew up in a small town & one of my classmates was the daughter of the local judge. Let's just say that the cumulative experience did not reinforce the notions of a fair and impartial judicial system being taught in civics class,,, Quote

7/4 Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 Do I know my local judges? No and I intend to keep it that way. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted November 1, 2011 Report Posted November 1, 2011 My mom was my judge and when she died the title was passed to my dad. I disregarded many of his "judgements" and he made me pay. I really resent that. Mom was a better judge. Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted November 2, 2011 Author Report Posted November 2, 2011 my 2 late wives were my finest and wisest judges, always having my best interests at heart. now that they have passed on, a daughter is doing surprisingly well at it. she took orders, too. Quote
