BruceH Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Anyone see The Simpsons the other night? Lisa got a new cat named "Coltrane" largely because of the name, and when she starts to play some Coltrane music on her sax, the cat screams and jumps out her 2nd-story window. I love it when they do a Lisa/jazz reference. Quote
chris olivarez Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Sorry I missed it what era Coltrane was being played? Quote
BruceH Posted January 15, 2004 Author Report Posted January 15, 2004 She only played about one note before the cat freaked, so it's impossible to say. I think he just didn't like woodwinds. Quote
chris olivarez Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 Or maybe he felt "dogged by Coltrane's legacy. Quote
sheldonm Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 I think it's amazing the cat could tell it was Coltrane after one note . Very smart cat! Quote
Claude Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 (edited) These kitties don't look very happy either: My cat doesn't mind Coltrane, but he hates Miles' muted trumpet. Edited January 15, 2004 by Claude Quote
couw Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 this one is so cool, it teaches you bop. Judging from the dancers, the cat ain't too cool about Coltrane either I think though. Cat Shatner says: ksssss! be gone! Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 (edited) Well I don't know about cats, but my dog Coltrane looks like this when I play Ballads or the Johnny Hartman CD. Edited January 15, 2004 by Dan Gould Quote
couw Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 now there's a nice pic for that captions thread :rsly: Quote
Claude Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 (edited) After playing the complete John Coltrane European Tour 7CD set: Edited January 15, 2004 by Claude Quote
Jazzmoose Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 You know, of our four cats, three run from the room if I put on Coltrane. Or darn near any other jazz. The fourth will stay, but prefers Brotzman. Go figure... Quote

Jazzmoose Posted January 15, 2004 Report Posted January 15, 2004 No, she genuinely seems to like it. She also sings along with Hank Williams and Bob Wills. Just a very odd cat, I guess... Quote
doubleM Posted January 16, 2004 Report Posted January 16, 2004 My cat Mlanche gets really freakish when I play trumpet w/ a harmon mute. Not sure why. She comes over and starts meowing profusely, but in a way that seems to suggest that she wants to join in on the experience. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted January 17, 2004 Report Posted January 17, 2004 Great pic, Dan. Cute dog. My cat likes jazz, I think. He usually flops down when I've got it on. I see his ears moving around like antennae to the sounds. I'm not much of a fan of muted trumpets either, so I can't blame those animals that don't like it. Quote
