I'm writing a paper on Miles Davis...

Recommended Posts

I know, I know, he's not a subject upon which more ink should be spilled than absolutely necessary.

Anyway, I'm looking for interviews with Miles done in the 1950's. I've found the Leonard Feather stuff, the Nat Hentoff interview in the Jazz Review, and a few other interesting tidbits. Of course, I've also been hunting around through liner notes.

Do you folks have any other suggestions?

Thanks, and Happy Holidays!

Jason

The various books suggested already should probably provide you with what you need. However, if you are doing graduate level research, you might want to check the various periodical indexes for that period; there might be short local interviews that have not been collected. I'm thinking of local papers in St. Louis/East St. Louis, Midwestern towns where Miles gigged during that period, and of course the NYC papers.

Thanks, king ubu, I have that one on order.

Marcello, the 1953 interview is a dead link. Is this the "Fresh Air" interview from St. Louis? I've only been able to find the first part of it, but it's more or less exactly what I am looking for.

My goal is to find as much as I can from the 1953-55 period.

Yep, try this link:Fresh Air Interview
