Hardbopjazz
Neil Young and Steve Jobs were working on this. Hopefully it will still happen. article
sonnymax
Each song would be huge, and a new storage and playback device might only hold 30 albums. Each song would take about 30 minutes to download, which is fine if you leave your device on overnight, he said. Oh yeah, that's gonna go over big. JSngry
Oh, so they were looking at an iPod that could play WAV (or even FLAC) files (of which neither format takes close to 30 minutes to download with an even semi-decent connection)? Radical! Visionary! Wold-Changing! Not. More cogent is this, from Neal Young: Young also said that "piracy is the new radio," suggesting that illegally copying low-quality songs was an acceptable way for fans to sample music before buying higher-quality versions. Yeah, whatever happened to radio? Seems like all anybody listens to nowadays is their iPod.
sonnymax
Yeah, whatever happened to radio? Seems like all anybody listens to nowadays is their iPod. I've been using iTunes to stream some jazz radio stations lately. I forgot how much fun it is not to know what song is coming up next, and I enjoy the chance to hear stuff I don't already own. Same here, but with Pandora at work.
