Hardbopjazz Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers did an album of the music from the film "Golden Boy." The album was called "Selections from the Film 'Golden Boy.' Cedar Walton is on piano. Is this the first recording with Cedar as a Jazz Messenger? Quote
J.A.W. Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 (edited) No, the first recording session with Cedar Walton was on October 2, 1961. It was released as Mosaic (Blue Note 4090). Golden Boy (Colpix) was recorded in 1963. Walton was also present on the Blakey/Messengers albums Buhaina's Delight (1961, Blue Note), Three Blind Mice (1962, United Artists), Caravan (1962, Riverside), Ugetsu (1963, Riverside), Free for All (1964, Blue Note), Kyoto (1964, Riverside) and Indestructible (1964, Blue Note). JSngry Posted February 5, 2012 Report Posted February 5, 2012 Walton can also be heard with Blakey on Anthenagin & Buhania, both early 70s albums on Prestige. Quote
