romualdo Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 I've been listening to Billy Harper's "On Tour In The Far East - Live, Vol. 3" On the final title "Cry Of Hunger", before the sax enters @ 3:15 there multiple marked gaps of silence (up to 10 secs) during the piano/bass/drums introduction (plus some more after the sax commences). Some of these gaps seem a bit too long to be part of the original performance - maybe I'm wrong? Does anyone else have this on their CD. Quote
felser Posted March 14, 2012 Report Posted March 14, 2012 I'll try to dig that one out and listen to it, but I do remember that when he performs that song, he leaves very long, uncomfortable periods of silence in the early and late parts, I believe to punctuate the message. His original recording of that (on the Strata-East 'Capra Black' album) had a chorus on that cut who simply sang "There'll be enough - someday" several times. Quote

The pauses are in the performance. You can tell by where they occur, and also the liner notes refer to them. If you watch the DVD he recorded in Europe (spectacular in performance and in sound/picture/photography), you will actually see those pauses. Quote
