Alexander Hawkins Posted April 10, 2003 Report Posted April 10, 2003 I just picked up this CD for next to nothing, knowing nothing about it, or anything, really! Could fill me in on the idea/reason for getting Jimmy Hamilton/David Murray/Alvin Baptiste/John Carter together? Presumably they weren't a working band for any period... Thanks as always Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 Chance for a gig at the Public Theater. Musicians take work where they can find it. Quote
JohnS Posted April 11, 2003 Report Posted April 11, 2003 (edited) As well as the two Public Theatre records they also recorded a couple of years later in Atlanta GA. This appeared on a Black Saint lp. They must have got togther again, presumably for a short tour or festival. Edited April 11, 2003 by JohnS Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted April 15, 2003 Report Posted April 15, 2003 I always assumed that the WSQ, which Muray is/was also a member of, was the inspiration...I actually prefer the way Clarinet Summit do Ellington tunes. Quote
