Took care of that one last year. Opt out of dumb phonebook deliveries.

Some newspaper reporter (remember them?) did a quick bit of research and found that in many (most) parts of the city and suburbs, the people dropping off the phone books didn't have a no-drop off list on them and scoffed at the idea they would bother to consult one. So I suspect you'll still end up with the phone books for the near term at least.

Along similar lines:

Going, Going, Gone: Vanishing Americana

This was originally published in 1994, so in the intervening 18 years many of the things covered have receded even further into the past, but there's still much of interest between its covers.

that little book has pretty much vanished. my local library sold it, probably to a rag dealer.

The USA as 'the greatest country the world has ever seen' (a quote from these pages a few years back).

That quote has already been proven wrong countless times over.

Past Performance Does Not Guarantee Future Results

In any case, I think it is quite a stretch to claim that even today the US is the greatest country in the world.
