More Lacy on the horizon: Roaratorio (who released the Lacy LP Sideways, one of his rarest, most expensive records) is announcing a one sided duo LP with Joe McPhee (!) called The Rest to be released in the near future.

as an aside The recent Emanem Lacy CD "The Sun" contains the four tracks from the Roarotoria LP

Is "The Rest" a reissue or never been released before?

Just to clarify, The Sun contains side one of Sideways. Side two remains unavailable elsewhere.

Really looking forward to some new Lacy.

I've not heard of this recording before, so I'm assuming it's never been released. Wish I knew when it dated from.

The Clinkers LP/CD (Hat Art/Hatology) is a solo concert in Basel (6/77) - the liner notes mention Joe McPhee waiting in the wings during the first half of the concert

Maybe they played together during the second half & this could be the likely release.

That's exactly it.

From an interview I did with Joe a little while ago:

One thing that has been missing since about 1977 is a duet with [soprano saxophonist] Steve Lacy. Just before Graphics came out, I had a back to back solo concert with Steve Lacy in Basel. I played first, and then he played, and it was his first time in Basel. At the end of my section and before he did his solo pieces, he said "oh, we should do something together, too." I said 'great - I've just blown everything I can think of,' with trumpet and tenor and soprano, and it was very loud and over the top. Steve comes on and starts playing, and it's just beautiful. I was thinking to myself 'what am I going to do, because the tenor is too loud and the trumpet's too shrill, and I shouldn't have the nerve to play the soprano. But it was time for me to come in, so I grabbed the soprano and we started to play. After the end of it, I couldn't play my cassette of the concert - from 1977 until Steve died in 2004, I wouldn't listen to it and I thought 'now I've done it - I've embarrassed myself, my family, and everyone else.' Finally I put it on and thought 'huh, that interesting - this really worked.' I gave it to James Lindbloom [of Roaratorio] and he's going to put it out as a single-sided LP, because it's about twenty-five minutes of music. People always wondered why Steve's LP, Clinkers (Hat Hut), was so short - it was because he stopped and we played together. So this is another missing link.

thanks to the link to your interview with Joe - comprehensive

Those Roaratorio LPs - they must disappear fast - small pressing numbers (300-400), hand screened covers etc

Pity they release so little on CD
