sgcim
I always liked this bossa nova version of "Melancholy Baby" featuring Warren Bernhardt on organ:
.:.impossible
Yes! I came across a large stack of Gary LPs right around the time my daughter was born. These were on heavy rotation during the first few months of her life.
michel devos
I've always be fond of the combination Hammond/vibes : they can sound both percussive or sustained and when sharing the solos, the mellow hold chords combine beautifully with the sharp, crackling sound of the mallets hitting the metal. A fantastic LP that was unfortunately never released in the CD format was : Freddie Mc Coy Lonely avenue Prestige 7395, with James Thomas at the organ. Maybe one day... In the Fantasy days, I suspect Bob Porter was pretty influential in terms of the Prestige Soul Jazz reissue programme and he didn't rckon Freddie McCoy was of any importance. Now the material's with Concord... pooh! MG
mikeweil
Johnny Lytle played with organists most of the time - Lem Winchester is on Johnny Hammond Album, IIRC. But it doesn't happen often. Cal Tjader's The Prophet has Joao Donato on organ all the way, but not Hammond-B3-like.
