mjzee Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 In the interview with Max Roach included in Ben Sidran's Talking Jazz, Max said that after Clifford and Richie Powell died, the remaining trio fulfilled some gigs that were booked before the accident; they played as a trio. Are there any recordings of these performances? Quote
brownie Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 Never heard of a recording of those gigs... unfortunately! Quote
JSngry Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 They might have been somewhat depressing, maybe. Rollins Plays For Bird, recorded just a few months after the accident does not exactly suffer from an overabundance of joy... Quote
mjzee Posted March 8, 2013 Author Report Posted March 8, 2013 He said these gigs were where Sonny got the idea for the trio format. Quote
AllenLowe Posted March 8, 2013 Report Posted March 8, 2013 that's actually counter to what Dick Katz told me; he was one of the last pianists to work with Sonny. Quote
