I'm psyching up for a long work assignment in the French-speaking world. I'd like to do a little subconscious immersion in the language (which I don't speak, to speak of, nor read in any manner worth writing home about*). Looking for a station with a web presence that plays something resembling jazz. I've found a few "shows" broadcast from time-to-time, some "pop" jazz, and some "Hot Club"-focused broadcasts (in English).

* Claude Schlouch can attest, based on my attempts at correspondence, 30 years ago.

Thanks, brownie. Not really expecting to improve my hopeless French, but rather to "tune my ear" to pick up more.

Unfortunately, I move from French to Flemish to Arabic to Spanish to Mandarin to Japanese to Tagalog to Korean over the course of a typical year (not to mention "local" languages), so I've given up on fluency in any language.

I am very fond of Swing FM (Limoges).

The only FM jazz radio channel in my area is Jazz Radio (http://www.jazzradio.fr/), that I don't like much. I used to listen to TSF Jazz a lot.

Many great broadcasts from more generalist radios: FIP (http://www.fipradio.fr/), France Musique, RTS (http://www.rts.ch/espace-2/programmes/jazzz/).

Additional broadcasts and details can be found there: http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liste_des_%C3%A9missions_de_jazz_%C3%A0_la_radio_en_France

Yes, France Musique is nice. Some of their shows are (or used to be) during in the middle of the weekday, though. I remember one occasion driving home through Eastern France on my way back from Britain and catching a radio show featuring Jabbo Smith which had me spellbound until the reception faded after I had passed the border towards Germany. As it happened I had bought the record featuring the very same tracks the day before at Mole Jazz! :D

Too bad the days of Jean-Christophe Averty's radio show "Les Cinglés du Music-Hall" (which often featured early jazz and hot dance orchestras) are over. He sure was a fast talker and projected real excitement in this show, sometimes bordering on being frantic ... A fine way to immerse you deeply into the French language! :D

Oh oui!! I miss those Averty radio shows.

He was some kind of a Phil Schaap on speed! A fast talker indeed and very exacting on details - any detail - on the recordings he played, indicating the master number (including going as far as detailing the take number)!

Great memories of some of those shows...

Early Serge Gainsbourg

Les Double Six

Blue Stars of Paris

Michel Legrand Sings (the 60s album on Philips; it is very jazzy, unlike his later vocal sessions).

some Blossom Dearie

I realize you said "station" but you can find these for cheap.
