danasgoodstuff Posted June 6, 2013 Report Posted June 6, 2013 I've been to some of the Normandy beaches and stood in "Germany gun enbankments looking at the concrete the allies dropped in the surf, very spooky still. Quote
Brad Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 Nothing like standing on the beaches where so many gave their lives. Quote

brownie Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 This stuff has always held a strong fascination for me... When I was a teenager, I spent hours looking at a collection of Life magazines from those days. This led to a career in photojournalism during which I was privileged to spend time on the D-Day beaches at several commemorations of those landings. Standing at the Colleville cemetery above Omaha Beach among those thousands of graves of so many brave men has always been a very high point in my life. Quote
Brad Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 If you're interested in reading about D Day, I recommend Max Hastings' D Day, Carlo D'Este's Decision in Normandy and Rick Atkinson's recently published Guns at Last Light (covers more than D Day). Quote
