Dan Gould Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 Haven't been schlepping down to Fort Lauderdale for quite a while as the local concert schedule really seemed to suffer in the wake of the mortgage meltdown/collapse. But I just saw at least one concert that I'll want to see: December 14 - Cyrus Chestnut Trio with Russell Malone http://ftlauderdale.jazznearyou.com/event_detail.php?id=502569#.Ufu8QJ3D_L8 Kenny Garrett is coming in January too but its Chestnut with Malone that I'm excited about. TedR Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 I attended a great concert series each year at Young Circle in Hollywood. Sonny Rollins, Milt Jackson, Lee Konitz, Jackie McLean, Ira Sullivan, Dave Holland, Nicholas Payton, etc. played over the years that it was sponsored by the South Florida Friends of Jazz. Late eighties, early nineties I think. I miss those days. Quote
JSngry Posted August 2, 2013 Report Posted August 2, 2013 The one time I went to that famous place down that way (Bubba's?) . I saw Zoot Sims w/Eddie Higgins' house trio. That was enjoyable. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted yesterday at 03:10 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:10 PM Chuck Redd was here in Tucson for 3 nights at the Century Room, a very good jazz club. My wife and I went to see him last night playing with a local big band. Redd brought some of the charts originally recorded by the Terry Gibbs Dream Band. We heard some terrific things by Bill Holman, Al Cohn and Bob Brookmeyer. In addition Chuck also had a fine arrangement by Thad Jones. It was a highly enjoyable evening of wonderful music. Due I expect, to Chuck Redd's wide publicity from cancelling his show at the Kennedy Center, The club was sold out all 3 nights. Quote
