mrjazzman
Caught the 8pm show at Yoshi's in Oakland of The Cookers. We all know I'm a hardbop fanatic and as much as I love The Cookers and their cd's, I was not overly impressed by this set. Good but bland. And, to my amazement, there was only the 8pm set, no 10pm set, unbelievable. To make matters worse, the guys kept motioning to the sound guy to make adjustments to the mikes. Eddie Henderson likes Saki and that's a good thing............
BFrank
The Cookers launched a new website that includes a Gallery with some VERY cool archival shots of some of the members - HERE.
clifford_thornton
Yoshi's is not the Yoshi's of old(er). Dunno if that's ALL of why it didn't come together for you, but that's probably part of it. A good band can be hampered by the venue. BFrank
I see them every time they come through the Bay Area (Yoshi's, SFJAZZ ... whatever) and have never been disappointed. BTW, a couple of interesting shots (among others) of Billy Harper with Lee Morgan on that site.
