Rooster_Ties
Mrs. Rooster and I are contemplating long weekend up in New York City in early November -- could be as much as a 4 or even 5-day weekend (so weekdays are possible too). Anything in the range of Oct. 30th through Nov. 12th. Suggestions for on-line comprehensive list(s) of jazz and/or classical music events going on in NYC around that time? Haven't a clue where to look, other than to start Googling -- but I'm figuring there are some tried and trusted websites that are clearly better than others. Many thanks in advance for any particular gigs anyone can suggest, and any web-resources I should be checking. Much appreciated!!
kh1958
I think the most comprehensive single source is New York City Jazz Record. But it's published on a monthly basis, so you are a little early. http://nycjazzrecord.com This site collects links to most of the club websites. http://bigapplejazz.com
Blue Train
For the non-Jazz stuff. http://www.newyorkcitytheatre.com/common/events_calendar.php?year=2013&month=10&day=31 If you're into Shakespeare....both of these are a must. Saw the UK productions, which they're bringing to NYC.http://www.newyorkcitytheatre.com/theaters/belascotheater/twelfth-night.phphttp://www.newyorkcitytheatre.com/theaters/belascotheater/richard-iii.php Not sure what kind of Jazz you're into, but something general for now. http://www.gothamjazz.com/index.html http://www.nyjazzreport.com/ Edited August 30, 2013 by Blue Train
kh1958
Your timing is a bit off: http://www.bluenote.net/newyork/schedule/moreinfo.cgi?id=11424 (Kenny G at the Blue Note, October 17-20).
Hardbopjazz
Try this website. Not many clubs are listing the shows for November yet.http://gothamjazz.com/listings/11/01/2013
Rooster_Ties
Just saw this in another "what's going on in NYC" thread, and thought I'd cross-post the info here (for my benefit later)... I've checked the usual sources: gothamjazz, club websites, NY Jazz Report, the two free magazines (whatever they're called now - Jazz Inside? NYC Jazz Record)... Anything cool I might miss? Concert by an Organissimo board member? Lecture or panel discussion? These sorts of things interest me a whole lot more than whatever's going on at Birdland or JALC. Steve Reynolds
Mid Month but the Marty Ehrlich residency @ The Stone has some great bands - I'm going for sure on 11/16 to see two sets of the quartet with Ray Anderson, Brad Jones and Matt Wilson 11/14 looks great as those 2 bands with Formanek and Sarin should groove like mad.
