relyles Posted August 14, 2014 Report Posted August 14, 2014 (edited) For anyone who may be traveling through CT this fall ... FIREHOUSE 12 : FALL 2014 JAZZ SERIES TO BEGIN SEPTEMBER 12TH New Haven's Firehouse 12 is proud to announce the schedule for its annual Fall Jazz Series, the acclaimed venue's program of two-set performances by some of the most active, innovative and respected musicians in improvised music today. The series begins on Friday, September 12th with a performance by saxophonist and composer Ingrid Laubrock and her quintet and continues every Friday thereafter through December 12th. The series features debut performances at Firehouse 12 by legendary saxophonist Evan Parker, guitarist Nels Cline, and percussionist Mike Pride while chronicling the continued development of Firehouse 12 regulars Daniel Levin, Myra Melford, and Michael Musillami among others. The series concludes on December 12th with a very special performance by legendary saxophonist Lee Konitz and his quartet. Each concert will feature sets at 8:30 and 10:00 p.m. Tickets for most events are $20 for the first set and $15 for the second set and can be purchased online, by phone at (203) 785-0468, or in person at the box office beginning at 7:00 p.m. the night of the show (subject to availability). A limited amount of season passes good for admission to both sets of every concert are also available for $225. Tickets for the Lee Konitz performance on December 12th are $30 for the first set and $20 for the second set, though that performance is included in the prices of the season pass. colinmce Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 McPhee/Levin/Corsano sounds fantastic. The rest is pretty too. Love to see Lee still going at it. Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 Me wishes these would be on Saturday night so I could take a trek up one weekend. I'm thrilled to be able to McPhee, Corsano and Evan Parker (in place of Levin) on September 9th. I've been dying to hear Corsano in a small room with a trio. I think these two trios could both be awe inspiring. The listing for the Parker concert lists McPhee to be playing trumpet which is wonderful but part of me wants to hear them both, at least for a time, on tenor saxophone. Quote
Leeway Posted August 15, 2014 Report Posted August 15, 2014 I'm hopeful that at least some of these musicians will make it to DC or Baltimore. There seems to be an informal circuit from NYC to Firehouse 12, Ars Nova in Philadelphia, and then either The Windup Space in Baltimore or Transparent Productions/Bohemian Caverns in DC (and sometimes both on succeeding nights). For instance, the Ingrid Laubrock Quintet will be at Bohemian Caverns on Sept. 7th. Quote
