Hardbopjazz Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 (edited) Happy belated Birthday Lou Donaldson. Lou turned 88 on November 1st. Many more. The oldest living Blue Note artist. Edited November 7, 2014 by Hardbopjazz Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Both Lou and Lee Konitz are scheduled to play the 2015 Portland Jazz Fest, but not on the same show (Battle of the Alto Octogenarians!) that would be tempting fate too much. Perversely perhaps, but I'd love to hear them together. Quote
Michael Weiss Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 I played a set a few years ago with Lou and Phil Woods. That was nice. Quote
Gheorghe Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 I played a set a few years ago with Lou and Phil Woods. That was nice. Well, would be nice to hear him again with a piano-player. The organ is cool, but I think in the last years he played only with organ players. Is he still active ? At least I saw him live last year. Though we know from the beginning the tunes he would play, it´s always nice to see a LD-show.... Quote
Patrick Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Scheduled to appear at the Kennedy Center on November 14. My only previous live experience with Lou was a couple of tunes at the Blue Note 75th anniversary fest. Looking foward to it. Quote
Justin V Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 I've seen Lou Donaldson live three times in the past five years and he looks and sounds great. Happy Birthday, Mr. Donaldson! Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 7, 2014 Report Posted November 7, 2014 Happy belated birthday, Lou. Shall we try to get it right next year? MG Quote
