felser Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Anyone familar with this one? Saw it on an email from jazzmessengers.com. Sound promising if the sound quality is OK.. Also, how is that June 1977 CD on Promishing Music? Probably pretty wonderful. Quote
jlhoots Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 I like the 1977 one. Don't know if I'm supposed to, but I do. Quote
jlhoots Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Are these legit? The liner notes to the 1977 issue state that they have permission from Horace's son, Greg. Don't know if that makes it " legit". Quote
JSngry Posted January 12, 2015 Report Posted January 12, 2015 Not sure about the 77 stuff, but the things with Brecker are highly unlikely to be legit. That stuff's been out there for decades, and the label itself specializes in things "things like that". Quote
felser Posted January 14, 2015 Author Report Posted January 14, 2015 So I'll skip the 73, eventually look for the 77 (but not at $17). Even most "legit" "finds" don't seem to really measure up to expectations, such as the 32jazz Left Bank sets (huge disappointments to me), the latest Blue Note Monk live set from a couple years ago, etc. The Blue Note Monk/Trane from a couple of decades ago and this latest Charles Lloyd set with Szabo are two exceptions.
