jeff newell Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 in my free jazz I don't use heads at the beginning and end. I like to explore in a formless fashion taking the line anywhere I want it to go. It could be compared to many forms in nature like fish swimming in a school. They all flow together knowing instinctively when to turn directions. I have always wanted to be in a band where all the musicians can improvise freely together as one school with no need for chord changes, just music. If you think like an artist, the musical lines can be seen to make shapes that can fit with other lines to make an abstract picture. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 sounds a bit like some music from about 50 back. Quote

JSngry Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Do fish swim just to be swimming, or do they have some notion of an idea about where they're going, or at least why? Not being snarky, it's a (type of) question I've never found a definitive answer to, not yet. Not about fish, but about music. Another question (serious also) - if one does not think like an artist, can one still create art? Or does that fish have to know exactly what its doing at all times? For that matter, does a fish even know its in water? Me, I like my free jazz to get paid, but hey, fish out of water, etc. Quote
