I still recall the encounter in the 1977 finals between Dawkins and Maurice Lucas, which seemed to turn that series around. Ironically, Lucas also died at the young age of 58.

My recollection of Dawkins is that he was one of the first to skip college.  RIP.

Reggie Harding was the first player to go from HS to NBA in 1962

CThunder was second in 1975

i thought Moses Malone was one of the first

but he was in the ABA

In Darryl Dawkins' case, it evidently was a heart attack.

The other thing I remember about Dawkins was the necklaces.

And the backboards shattering.  I think that that was what the fans came to see!
