Dan Gould Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 I thought this got discussed but couldn't find a thread (big shocker). Anyway I sprung for this as part of my "Happy 50th Birthday to Me" and was listening to this on the way to work and can't recommend it enough. I know Solar has questionable business practices but then again what was the provenance of those original VGM LPs? This concert has four tracks by the band, consisting of tunes from the Royal Flush Blue Note LP (Plus Hancock stretching out on a standard). I've loved the originals on that record for a long time and hearing the band stretch out on them is great.Soundwise there is an odd hiccup on the first track, Herbie is playing an intro and fades out and back but beyond that the sound is quite acceptable, although I did have to crank the volume in the car.Amazon has one offer of this for almost $30 but ebreggae has it for almost 2/3 less, under $13:http://www.ebreggae.com Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted October 1, 2015 Report Posted October 1, 2015 Thanks for the heads up on this, those two truly had a thing going on (Musically speaking). Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 2, 2015 Author Report Posted October 2, 2015 The tunes on this were so fresh that they hadn't named one of them, and another only had a preliminary name (which they kept). I think the concert was several months before the Royal Flush session. Quote
JSngry Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Just to clarify, this CD is the same as the VGM LP, with the addition of a trio track by Herbie, correct? Is that trio cut "Like Someone In Love", and is it prefaced by some guy saying that they call Herbie "Oatmeal" because he's "done in three minutes"? If it is, then that one's on the VGM Miles in St. Louis LP.Just wanting to make sure I'm not missing anything. I love the whole Royal Flush thing. That's a special record and that was a special band while it lasted. Quote
Larry Kart Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Heard that band at the Birdhouse in Chicago. Same personnel as on the Warwick LP. Great stuff. I remember there was talk about Herbie (local kid) joining the band; that may have been his first gig with them. Quote

fasstrack Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 Was Jorgie's the same club in Canada that Wes Montgomery recorded in years ago? Quote
JSngry Posted October 2, 2015 Report Posted October 2, 2015 This Jorgie's was in Saint Louis. as was the Jorgie's where Wes recorded. My VGM LP talks about a vol. 2 of the Byrd/Adams material...did this ever materialize? Quote
