T.D. Posted May 21, 2019 Report Posted May 21, 2019 (edited) Recently bought a bunch of used (mostly modern classical) CDs. Hit-or-miss proposition, but these have impressed so far: The lower left is Janacek string quartets performed live by Smetana Qt, Prague 1979. Edited May 21, 2019 by T.D. Quote

T.D. Posted May 23, 2019 Report Posted May 23, 2019 More from the lot of recent purchases: Really enjoy the Ken Benshoof works. Never heard of him before this. The Milhaud (cond. Nagano on Erato) is of course good. Quote

Apart from the Siloti, the arrangements were new to me (Kabalevsky - who knew?!?), and I suppose some inevitably convince more than others. But the playing is great - real clarity! The C Minor Passacaglia, for instance, is really wonderful playing imho. Edited May 23, 2019 by Alexander Hawkins Quote
