Just ran across a copy of this delicious 1989  Muse album, with Virgil Jones, Charles Davis (on tenor), Houston Person (on one track), Arthur Harper, and Mickey Roker. Utterly relaxed and in there. This may be old stuff to Jim A. and others, but I was particularly pleased by Scott's subtly varied registration throughout; she often shifts colors amidst a solo in a very natural speech-like manner. This is not the Scott I remember from the "Cookbook" days, but maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention back then. Nice to hear Davis on tenor, Jones too. Harper, Roker, and Scott are joined at the hip(s).

Picked it up for pennies when all the old Muse CD inventory got Final Dumped and share your sentiments. Also picked up Scott' other Muse date, Great Scott with Buck Hill. I like this one better, but hey, Shirley Scott, always real, always true, always Shirley. Pick up an extra on the way home from work for that special someone who's waiting there for you. They'll thank you for it!

Worth noting that both were produced by Houston Person, one of the harder working mans in show business, quiet as it's been kept.

She was also a very kind lady, met her at a benefit concert she headlined at the Ethical Society in Philly for the husband of a mutual friend ca. 1990.  She played piano at that event.

Still waiting for her great  'One For Me'  Strata-East recording to come out on CD.  Probably in for a looong wait at this point.  Also MIA  from that label, 'Reasons in Tonality', 'Alkebu-Lan', and the Harold Vick 'Don't Look  Back' among other worthy titles.
