Hamid Drake in the new Cadence

Nice interview with Hamid Drake in the new issue of Cadence. I met him once, and there's a real radiance to the man that comes through in this interview (and in his playing as well, obviously!).

Thanks for the heads up on the Hamid Drake interview. I picked this months copy of Cadence at my local newsstand over the weekend. Great interview, I really enjoyed learning about Drake's creative process. Did you happen to read last months interview with Joe Morello? Also, very enjoyable.

Didn't read the Morello yet. I tend to let Cadences pile up and then read the last 2-3 at once. Couldn't say no to an immediate read of the Hamid piece, however

Must be a pretty hip place to have Cadence at the newsstand. I don't believe you could find Cadence at any newsstand here in RI.

There are a few excellent newsstands out here in Seattle. Steve’s in the Fremont neighborhood usually has the most current issues of almost every magazine imaginable. As if that wasn’t enough Jive Time records is only a block away–good LP selection but somewhat high prices. Besides those two shops, the neighborhood itself has recently been invaded by annoying corporate hipsters and those upscale linen clothing boutiques.

I met Hamid Drake last night. You are right about that radiance. Easily the most gentile person I have ever had the pleasure to speak with. I can't think of another drummer that holds a candle to Hamid Drake. After seeing him in action last night, it dawned on me that I have never seen another drummer so comfortable behind the kit. He had it all.

Tom, you are right. I need to subscribe to Cadence.

I read the article today (my local record store stocks Cadence) and it is indeed insightful. I have never met Drake, but the intereview provides a decent introduction to what Drake's inspiration. I am hoping to hear him live sometime soon.
