Scott, let's take a hypothetical. Your wife one day decides to take off, doesn't leave a note or anything, just moves out when you're at work. You don't call her, send her a text asking what happened? Because  there's  nothing left to study. The end result is she's gone.

What exactly are you going to text Paddock? He's dead, and the FBI is combing through the paper trail of his life picking gnat shit out of pepper. The difference between someone that is still alive and can provide answers when asked, and someone who is dead is enormous. So your hypothetical makes absolutely no sense.

Scott and Jim: There might turn out to be a few bits of info about Paddock (other than his desire to be served shrimp right when he wanted it) that are suggestive of something, but almost surely only "suggestive, if that.  Or a brain autopsy might point to a tumor or such. But then I'm "a guy who has spent some time building up a feeling of superiority to and contempt towards other people," and I haven't killed anyone yet, except for ... well, enough about that. :)

Yeah, yet. And hopefully never. So what keeps you between the lines , hopefully forever, and what lets this guy go outside the lines?

That's what I'm curious about, and I'd like to see that path of investigation continued. Probably won't be definitive, but still, this was not a "normal" person who "suddenly snapped". He was, however, a person  who seems to have been on a gradually outbound path for a while. Maybe there's some things there to look at, maybe not.

It makes no sense to you [which I doubt, because you just like to argue with people, so I was expecting that], but it's quite an apt analogy.

Every crime has a motive. Why this man did what he did is still a mystery.
