bebopbob Posted January 25, 2018 Report Posted January 25, 2018 Anyone know if Charles Tolliver - Paper Man was ever issued on CD? Heard it for the first time this past weekend and was totally amazed Quote
felser Posted January 25, 2018 Report Posted January 25, 2018 Never has been - I've been checking for it on CD for many years. Quote
bebopbob Posted January 25, 2018 Author Report Posted January 25, 2018 Wow, would have made for a great Mosaic Single! Surprised it hasn’t been reissued in Japan or Europe. Hopefully soon. Thanks for the response Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 25, 2018 Report Posted January 25, 2018 Never on CD, far as I know. But I think there may have been a legit digital-download version (maybe even with one bonus alternate take/track?). But I don't do downloads, so I never persued it. Seems like I saw it on Amazon for download even, maybe. Would buy a copy on CD, for sure! Quote
BFrank Posted January 25, 2018 Report Posted January 25, 2018 (edited) This is available on eMusic and Amazon for download, but I haven't seen a CD, either. Edited January 25, 2018 by BFrank Quote
bebopbob Posted September 26, 2018 Author Report Posted September 26, 2018 After 50 years, still no Paper Man on CD. Anyone know why Paper Man still has not seen the light of day on CD? I see that it’s available as a download but still no CD release ! Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted September 26, 2018 Report Posted September 26, 2018 I'd buy one. It's mostly a good, reasonably solid date -- though I seem to remember it being a tad bit wobbly in a few spots. (This coming from an otherwise a Tolliver devotee=me.) Quote

It's really good, but a relative disappointment given the personnel (Tolliver, Bartz, Hancock, Ron Carter, Joe Chambers) and era (1968). 'The Ringer' is the great Tolliver album pre-Strata East. That being said, I'd love to have a CD of it. Quote

It's a solid B+ date, but given the personnel I'd forgotten Herbie and Joe Chambers were both on it), it doesn't have quite the shine that quite a number of other dates both Herbie and Chambers were on together (not that they're the problem specifically). I've got a burn of it -- I should spin it again soon (haven't in a good 5 years, at least). Quote
