John Havlicek passed away today at age 79.  If you never saw him play, you missed one of the all-time greats.  He was on eight championship teams with the Celtics, he was a league MVP and an all-star 13 times.  How good was he?  He and Dave Winfield are the only two athletes who were drafted by teams in the NBA, The NFL and Major League Baseball.

He was indeed a great player.

Other than him and Frank Howard, who else was nicknamed "Hondo"? And why?

Wasn't Dave Henderson, the baseball player, Hondo too?

Sad to hear about Havlicek, he was a great player.

Interesting stat I just stumbled across.  During one two year period mid-career, Havlicek played in 163 out of 164 games and averaged over 45 minutes per game.
