Just returned from a trip Istanbul-Riga-İstanbul-home.

An enormous variety of mopeds/motorrollers/scooters in Istanbul. Many are Chinese and, I'm assuming, local products, a lot of sundry Hondas. I spotted this Chinese Ruckus knockoff.

Byzantium/Constantinople/Istanbul is a fascinating city, the most vibrant and diverse place I've ever visited...the markets, street cafes, a million of well-fed cats and tens of thousands of street dogs resting wherever they see fit, Hagia Sophia, the Basilica Cistern, Bosphorus at night, the twirling dervishes accompanied by traditional instrument virtuosos, TopKapi and its incomparable armoury, the most beautiful women in surreal, Cleopatra-like makeup...what a place!

Took out the Ruckus for the first time yesterday. Battery died over the winter (forgot to connect the trickle charger), but the foot crank started her right up.

This has been a particularly nasty New England Spring. We aren't known for romantic Spring seasons anyway, but this one is the worst in my memory: cold and rainy.

So I just bought my second motorcycle (if you consider Honda Ruckus one). It's a 2023 Honda CT 125 with only 650 miles on it. Also known as the Honda Trail. I just love it. Top speed clocked by moi at a blood-curdling 56 mph on a straightaway. Took it through some mountain bike trails here in town....far out. That thing can huff and puff just through about anything with 190 lbs of me on it. Got stuck in the sand up to the chain, got off, pulled the rear end out, didn't throw my back doing it...a big plus already. Took me a little bit to figure out the semi-automatic 4-speed transmission...no clutch. The fellow who sold me the Trail also threw in the hitch motorcycle carrier. I'll be exploring the back roads before the bad weather kicks in here in Southern New England....hopefully it'll be a long Fall.

I still have my Fat Bob. . .but don't ride it much any longer. It's so odd to only be able to ride half the year or so, and my wife won't ride with me and worries everytime I fire it up and ride off. . . I'd do better to let it go and may soon.

Let's see some photos of it!

These are from years back. Mirrors and battery cover are spiffier now. Tool bag is off the handlebar support and down behind the front wheel.

Being up at the beach now, I see tons of scooter riders. I cringe when I see so many of them weaving around cars in traffic. I guess they figure that because they're on a little scooter, their bodies are somehow impervious to car metal.

I still haven't gotten the itch to ride again. These days, I get my 2-wheeled excitement from my Magnum Cruiser ebike. I've had a couple of close calls on that too. People don't like to give bicycle riders the 3 foot buffer that they're supposed to. I had one big truck's mirror come very close to my head once. Scared the heck out of me.
