Brad Posted May 12, 2022 Report Posted May 12, 2022 Anyone familiar with this record, https://www.discogs.com/release/5309567-Charlie-Parker-And-The-Jazz-All-Stars-With-Sarah-Vaughan-Bird-Lives If you are, is it just a compilation from other sources. Also, any comments on sound quality. Thanks. Quote
JSngry Posted May 12, 2022 Report Posted May 12, 2022 A compilation of Continental 78s. Originals were good enough SQ. The music itself is wonderful, singers doing that early post-WWII singer thing with Bird/Diz/Etc, providing accompaniment. I don't know that I would call this music "common", at least not in any "formal" way. It's the stuff of off-brand labels. But didn't Storyvill do a Continental disc or two? Or not? Quote

These sides were on a 2 Lp Spotlite set called Every Little Bit of it that had other (all?) Bird appearances from 1945. Quote
JSngry Posted May 12, 2022 Report Posted May 12, 2022 Storyville has a Continental project on Bandcamp, at least. https://storyvillerecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-continental-sessions-vol-1 https://storyvillerecords.bandcamp.com/album/the-continental-sessions-vol-2 https://storyvillerecords.bandcamp.com/album/continental-sessions-vol-3 So it's out there. Three volumes. Quote

Here’s one of the Storyville CDs, https://www.discogs.com/release/15247465-Various-The-Continental-Sessions-Volume-1 Volume 2, https://www.discogs.com/release/15389978-Various-The-Continental-Sessions-Volume-2- Edited May 12, 2022 by Brad Quote
JSngry Posted May 12, 2022 Report Posted May 12, 2022 Continental material had a way of turning up on Onyx collections, fwiw. But those are long gone. Those Storyville releases seem to be the most thorough collection to date. Quote
