I'm Going To The Ring!

Recommended Posts

In October. DSO is doing concert versions of it. Oct 13, 15, 17, & 20. Prebooked today for the low price of $282.00. Decent enough seats too!

Excellent, enjoy!

I've seen 2 staged Rings, one in Bayreuth (Barenboim cond, Kupfer design) and the other in NYC (Levine cond, I dunno who designed). Used to have a VHS of the Boulez-Chéreau Ring, watched it quite a few times, but eventually ditched the player and donated the video.

We hardly travel these days and my wife doesn't do opera (at all...), so this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. Carpe dieming!

I have a DVD set of the whole thing, but getting uninterrupted viewing time in this house is difficult, even for ballgames.

Apparently the DSO is the only orchestra in North America doing this right now and inquiries are coming in from all over America.

First the eclipse, now the Ring. What's next?

What a fantastic opportunity, Jim.  So cool that you're going to be able to see all four in the course of one week!

Outside of Bayreuth (and maybe music capitals like NYC, London & Berlin), complete Ring cycles must be VERY rare.

Well, this is concert, not staged. But still...yeah, seems like a real (and rare) opportunity!

Fabio Luisi came to the DSO with a solid reputation as an operatic conductor, so maybe this is some kind of networked synergetic machinationalism. No matter, I ain't complaining!

Really looking forward to seeing what Ring Saturation is going to be. They did a concert version of Die Walküre a few years ago and just that one fucked up my head, very much. The "super-captions", being able to follow the story in real time instead of just "understanding" it...that thing got dark in a hurry and never lit up. No light at the end of THAT tunnel...

So yeah, I am excited (and thankful/grateful) for this opportunity!

People keep track of them. 😉

In USA, scarce as hen's teeth. Surprisingly many in Europe.

2024 listings (all Wagner, incl Ring) Europe  US/Canada
