clifford_thornton Posted September 9, 2024 Report Posted September 9, 2024 I know this is a little bit of short notice, but perhaps some of you local to the Hudson Valley will be interested in a sort of rangy singer-songwriter evening of music. What: Tara Jane O'Neil; Little Mazarn; The Local Third When: September 11 @ Tubby's Kingston, show at 8 $20 doors/$15 advance I wanted to let you know about a wonderful concert coming up on September 11, 2024 at Tubby's in Kingston, NY with Tara Jane O'Neil, Little Mazarn, and "The Local Third" who are playing the music of Ida, dressed up to look like Ida, and probably smell a bit like Ida (but aren't exactly performing AS Ida). TJO has been a big part of my musical life/interests since I was a teenager trying to get accustomed to life & beauty & darkness and all that exists in the world. She was the bassist and a principal songwriter/vocalist in Rodan, who were huge for me (their sole proper LP, Rusty, celebrated its 30th anniversary this year), and later founded The Sonora Pine, Retsin (who joined forces with Ida), and has recorded numerous solo LPs of spindly, rich songcraft and improvisation. She played Tubby's a couple of years ago with drummer/vocalist Ryan Sawyer and it was a blast. Little Mazarn are from Austin and consist of Lindsey Verrill (ex-Weird Weeds) and Jeff Johnston and sometimes others. Lindsey has that kind of "lonesome train-whistle voice" which cuts through everything. It's music that feels both homespun and otherworldly. "The Local Third" will be playing music like this legendary album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xaVblDntwU Tix here: TJO/LM/TLT Quote
