tranemonk Posted April 18 Report Posted April 18 https://newportjazz.org/tickets I'm very cautiously optimistic that the lineup will start shifting back to jazz, since they have a new programmer. We'll see. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 18 Report Posted April 18 I'm actually anticipating it will have even less jazz content as has been the case for most "jazz" festivals these days. Quote
tranemonk Posted Wednesday at 03:01 PM Author Report Posted Wednesday at 03:01 PM Interesting. Even though I don't know 2/3rds of these groups, there are some folks I'd love to see (e.g. Charles Lloyd, The Bad Plus, etc.) What do you think? Anybody know any of these other names ,you'd recommend? https://newportjazz.org/lineup Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted Wednesday at 07:34 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 07:34 PM Sullivan Fortner is at the top of his game these days. Tia Fuller is always great, Ditto Billy Hart. I'd say Terri Lynne Carrington would be a "must see" but not with Social Science. I'm not a fan of that band. Billy Hart's quartet is really good. Charles Lloyd would be worth catching but the last time I saw Lloyd, he was just OK. Maybe he had an off night? Quote
randyhersom Posted 18 hours ago Report Posted 18 hours ago I had been unaware that there was a new Leon Thomas on the scene. Quote
tranemonk Posted 1 hour ago Author Report Posted 1 hour ago I'm trying to be a little more open-minded to these bands I've never heard of. It seems this festival (the first one under Nate Smith) has a smidge more jazz to it than Christian McBride's last few festivals. When he had Common as the headliner a few years ago I knew I was out... I'm hoping this is going to be get better. Quote
