  6. 2019 #CFL season

Dana, good point! We have Fajardo in Sask, Davis in Ottawa, Franklin in Toronto and Adams in Montreal who now have the chance to show what they can do. That's half the league. If one of them fails, somebody might trade for Streveler. And Matthew Cauz has nominated the game for Game of the Year. ***** power rankings ***** Mike Goodpaster lists his top 15 favorite running backs. ***** The Eskimos have cut Korey Jones, and signed J'Michael Deane. ***** Zack Medeiros has signed with the Argos because Ronnie Pfeffer was hurt. 10. Marion Brown: Le temps fou

yeah I have a CD-R bootleg (not DMG) so at least I can listen to the thing when I want. Great record, never scored an original alas...
  11. Marion Brown: Le temps fou

Yeah, bootleg quality. Thankfully I didn't pay for it
  12. I’m standing by my story. It would sell.
  13. So, What Are You Listening To NOW?

Listened to more new 80th Anniversary cd reissues from Blue Note (Universal Japan). Although there's no engineering credit listed I'm coming to the conclusion these are new masterings. There's a consistent sound across a number of them that makes me feel this is the same mastering equipment used across the reissues. Here are those I listened to: Big John Patton "The Way I Feel" Stanley Turrentine "That's Where It's At" Clifford Jordan "Cliff Jordan" Sheila Jordan "Portrait of Sheila"
  14. So, What Are You Listening To NOW?

McCoy's version of "Wave" is so forceful that should have been re-titled "Tidal Wave"!
  15. Marion Brown: Le temps fou

ugh, that sucks -- it's clearly a bootleg, so...
  16. So, What Are You Listening To NOW?

"Amen", as they say . . . Now playing:
  17. Patrice Rushen is quite a talented and interesting musician, from those teenage albums on Prestige up to the present. Very convincing for both jazz and R&B.
  18. Talking of the Troupe book (‘Miles and Me’, not the autobio) at the time it came out I remember attending a book launch/concert at a very nice auditorium in the LA area with Mr Troupe doing the intros with a stellar Miles tribute band including Bennie Maupin, Adam Holzman and Patrice Rushen. They played some of the Bitches Brew era stuff and it was great to hear Maupin in that context. The Paul Tingen book is an excellent read ! Particularly good for the period up to ‘Agharta’. For the later period, I like George Cole’s ‘The Last Miles’.
  19. Ordered the Tingen book. Another $9.50 shipped. This is getting to be an expensive thread for me!
  20. So, What Are You Listening To NOW?

Reginald R. Robinson - Sounds in Silhouette: I picked this up a few years ago in DC for a couple bucks. I am curious to hear his recent work. He obviously received attention as a young man with his Delmark albums and as a MacArthur recipient, but he is still active and carrying the ragtime torch 20+ years later.
  21. Black Saint / Soul Note Box Set Sale

they are in, working on the slowly. will send an invoice today
  22. Black & Blue Records - CD Offer

I didn't even know that Sammy Benskin and Cliff Smalls had albums on Black and Blue. I love Benskin on the Hardee/Quebec Mosaic and Smalls on the Master Jazz Piano Mosaic. Any opinions on the Benskin or Smalls (as a leader or with Oliver Jackson) dates?
  23. So, What Are You Listening To NOW?

NP: Sonny Stitt - Endgame Brilliance (32 Jazz) CD repackaging of two Cobblestone LPs: Constellation & Tune-Up! Prime Stitt.
  24. I did enjoy the Tingen book for dealing with that music as music, for looking at what WAS going on instead of what WASN'T. He wasn't the first to deal with it from a reality-based perspective, but he certainly wrote a good book about it. The only groan I had was that he also included some Sri Chowhoundy type of MacroCosmicUnity about the philosophy of it all, and a little bit went a long way, especially since I do not share the same concept of how much is a little bit. But thankfully, that stuff was segregated away from the musical part.
