  1. Has anyone had problems finding the RVG of Grachan Moncur III - Evolution? I ordered the whole batch from Amazon and received all the others. When I look on the Amazon website it shows: Usually ships in 3 to 6 weeks Whereas CDUniverse is showing: Usually ships in 1-2 days. I noticed that there is no shopping cart icon for this title on the Blue Note website. Does anyone know if Evolution was actually released...or is it sitting next to Basra in a warehouse somewhere....
  2. OK, so you have to go to the details page for each video... Here they are: Rollins Adderley Evans Kirk Hampton Peterson Simone
  3. There are some brief previews of each volume here
  4. What was the first Blue Note album to contain a Francis Wolf photograph in full color?
  5. I believe its Mustang and Let 'Em Roll Correct. wow! recorded six months apart too. Jimmy Smith is wearing the same outfit on Back at the Chicken Shack and Midnight Special but no surprise there as they were recorded together.
  6. 243 244 9 rows of 26 (234) plus 10 on the top row (244) makes you wonder how the settled on that number and whether there is any significance.
  7. While we're impatiently waiting for the answer to this one how about another question. How many exclamation points on are on the cover of Jackie McLean's "It's Time!"?
  8. Reid Miles was responsible for designing many album covers for Blue Note. Can you name an album where the man himself actually appears?
  9. My Hank Mobley - Quintet CD looks naked.... Can you spot what is missing? Hint: The same thing is missing on the RVG Edition of Birth of the Cool (but with a reason).
  10. Complete details available here. Sonny Rollins - Live in 65, 68 Cannonball Adderley - Live in 63 Lionel Hampton - Live in 58 Bill Evans - Live in 64-75 Oscar Peterson - Live in 63,64,65 Nina Simone - Live in 65, 68 Rahsaan Roland Kirk - Live in 63, 67 Available for pre-order at CDUniverse
  11. Gold Digger by Kanye West was #1 the day I got married... Keep digging, sweetie... It's there somewhere.
  12. Yes, for me Pendulum is the more enjoyable of the two. When I got MS-012 I listened to it for a bit and at the time it was just a bit too loose for my taste. But I've bought a lot of music since then (like the aforementioned 20 selects). In that time my tolerance for more outside material has increased so I have definitely revised my rating of MS-012 based on MS-032.
  13. Funny thing - after listening to Pendulum that last couple of days I have found the Liebman/Beirach (MS-012) to be more accessbile. It's hard to believe that was 20 Select sets ago.
  14. I received Pendulum yesterday and listened to the whole thing...and again today. I like this Pendulum much better than the Liebman/Beirach select (#12). I brought it to work today too to give it another spin. Pendulum, while intense, is more inside than the Liebman/Beirach Select. Heck, disc 3 of Pendulum has Blue Bossa, Well You Needn't, and Impressions. Good stuff.

  16. Does anyone care to part with their copy (good condition, of course) of Jack Wilson - Something Personal (Connoisseur) for less than the $30 or so that can be found from sellers on Amazon?
  17. Report: Virgin Megastore Times Square To Close In Q1 ’09 June 05, 2008 - Retail By Ed Christman, N.Y. The Virgin Megastore in New York’s Times Square will close down in the first quarter of 2009, according to a published report that quotes a senior executive at the Vornado Realty Trust. That company and the Related Cos., both real estate companies, formed a joint- venture to acquire the 10-unit Virgin Entertainment Group North America in September 2007. Vornado owns 49% of Virgin, while Related owns 51%. Neither company was available for comment at deadline. The other New York Megastore in Union Square is scheduled to close at the same time, according to the Web site of the Winick Realty Group, a real estate broker that is shopping the site’s lease. "We bought the Virgin business to wind it down to get a hold of the real estate," Sandeep Mathrani, Vornado's executive VP and head of its Retail Real Estate Division, told Reuters. He said that Virgin pays only a $54 per square-foot when the market rent in the area is about $700. In general, Vornado has a dim view on retail. In the same Reuters article, Vornado president Michael Fascitelli said, “We think there's a recession going on. We think it could get much tougher in the retail sector.” Ironically, those comments come one month after the Virgin Megastore chain announced that it had achieved one of the most successful years, which it said was notable considering the challenging U.S. marketplace. The company said it was up 11.5% nationally since last year on a same store basis, and up more than 10% in the New York City market alone. Source
  18. I like her. Check out the video interview over at Amazon she seems like a neat lady. I plan on picking up her latest release.
  19. You are correct. The OK edtion adds Take 1. Takes 3 & 4 on the OJC edition. My copy should arrive tomorrow. I'll compare it to the OJC.
  20. I think I will hold out for a reissue of Freedom Suite that contains the elusive take 2...
