  1. Many of the drives around 120 GB - 160 GB are bus-powered (USB 2.0 or firewire). I have personally had good luck with IOMEGA portable drives and Western Digital internal (I have heard good things from others about their external drives). You should be able to find these for $120-$150 at the major retailers. Possible cheaper online.

  3. Okay!.... You can have your 2 dollars.
  4. New discovery? Looks like whoever manufactures the windscreens for the camera man's microphone already know about this species and have been using their pelts.
  5. How about now? UK hands over last region, Basra, to Iraq forces or Maybe we have to wait until 1/20/2009...
  6. Anyone else see some discrepancies with the new catalog vs. new website? Check out the Turrentine - catalog: 6 discs/$96. web: 5 discs/$80. Check out the Stitt - catalog: $114. web: $144. There may be more... P.S. Concord has a new catalog design too.
  7. Looks like digital releases might be part of the plan for the future. Welcome to the new Blue Note Records web site. Over the past several months we have been working on this new site and will continue to do so over the coming months and years. Like Jazz, the Blue Note site will be ever growing and ever expanding. That growth and expansion will include offering high quality DRM-free MP3 downloads of our full catalog of tracks, albums, out of print titles and unique releases exclusive to the Blue Note store. From the recently remodeled Blue Note website
  8. I've been stuck on the John Patton Mosaic and decided to get Blue John, Let 'Em Roll, and Got A Good Thing Goin'. That means one or all of these will come out as an RVG/Connoisseur. Everyone can thank me later.
  9. It's a little unusual not to know at least something about the upcoming reissues in the RVG or Connoisseur series. Does anyone have any information they can share? From Kevin later in the thread: March 11 RVGs Jimmy Smith – Live At The Baby Grand V. 1 Jimmy Smith – Live At The Baby Grand V. 2 Ike Quebec – Blue And Sentimental Jutta Hipp With Zoot Sims Here Comes Louis Smith Stanley Turrentine – Look Out! Freddie Redd – Shades Of Redd Horace Silver – Further Explorations Lou Donaldson – Here ‘Tis Wayne Shorter – The Soothsayer May 13 Connoisseurs Stanley Turrentine – Return Of The Prodigal Son (the June 23 & July 28, 1967 sessions) Louis Smith – Smithville (first time in stereo with two bonus tracks) Bobby Hutcherson – Head On (includes three previously unissued tracks) Art Farmer – Brass Shout (includes Aztec Suite) Dizzy Gillespie & James Moody with Gil Fuller & The Monterey Jazz Festival Orchestra (includes Moody's Night Flight album)
  10. Any idea if these are good for CDs I've asked them to hold at the checkout for me? The coupon's exclusions read, "Does not apply to special orders, reservations or easy shipping." Although I seriously doubt they would make a deal about it.
  11. I plan on picking up the Plant/Krauss album today (release day) at Circuit City. Seems they're the brick & mortar low price for this one @ $9.99 I can't call myself a fan of either, but having heard the clips at Amazon.com I have to say the pairing seems to work.
  12. Looks like many of the single disc Connoisseurs at Amazon are on sale for $11.97. Nothing mind blowing, but still a nice break from $17.97
  13. I like the new design. It's much easier to navigate.
  14. Don't forget the thematically related All Mornin' Long I have the OJCs of "Day" and "Night" and am happy with them. Now it looks like I have to track down 2 Guitars...
  15. A truly gifted artist. RIP ...and this time he really is in a box.
  16. I picked up the Dexter Gordon. I couldn't be happier with the sound/video quality. The Jazz Icons series is top notch. I have the Art Blakey from the first series. I would really like to get more of these.
  17. I've run through this new batch a couple of times now. I was already familiar with Takin' Off, Afro-Cuban (80's CD), and Face to Face (Connoisseur) so I've been focusing more on Thad, Lou and Lee. I have to say Delightfulee is delightful. I know some don't care for Oliver Nelson's arrangements, but I really enjoy the big band versions on this one. I think the Turrentine dates do it better, but to hear Lee in this context is a treat. It was fun hearing Papa Lou do his version....the version... of Gravy Train I first heard on the aforementioned Turrentine/Nelson combo. I picked up the Magnificent Thad at my local Borders on the day of release (because CDU didn't clear up the USA vs Japan in time for my order...it still may show up wrong for all I know). I've had an extra day and a half with this one and all I can say is I wish I had more Thad Jones in my collection. (Is there a magic genie smiley?) I know things are looking pretty bleak in the industry right now. Most of next week's batch are just upgrades for me. I hope the RVGs (and re-issues in general) continue.
  18. Thad Jones - The Magnificent Thad Jones is showing up on the Blue Note site as being part of the 9/18 batch. CD Universe and J&R.com still show this as an import. Amazon.com appears to have it right.
  19. I only see 2 from the 9/25 batch.
  20. British troops pull out of last base in Basra
  21. Rubin has a bigger idea. To combat the devastating impact of file sharing, he, like others in the music business (Doug Morris and Jimmy Iovine at Universal, for instance), says that the future of the industry is a subscription model, much like paid cable on a television set. "You would subscribe to music," Rubin explained, as he settled on the velvet couch in his library. "You'd pay, say, $19.95 a month, and the music will come anywhere you'd like. In this new world, there will be a virtual library that will be accessible from your car, from your cellphone, from your computer, from your television. Anywhere. The iPod will be obsolete, but there would be a Walkman-like device you could plug into speakers at home. You'll say, 'Today I want to listen to ... Simon and Garfunkel,' and there they are. The service can have demos, bootlegs, concerts, whatever context the artist wants to put out. And once that model is put into place, the industry will grow 10 times the size it is now." If the future of the music business is a subscription model than I will choose to live in the past. I will not pay over and over and over to listen to the music I want. I want to buy a CD once and listen to it as often as I like for as long as I like. Who wants to pay a monthly fee? And when you stop....you have nothing but the memories to show for all the $$ you shelled out.
  22. I got this batch today (a day earlier than usual from CDUniverse). All but Duke Jordan and Paul Chambers were new to me. Over all this is a pretty good batch.
  23. Then if I look in my rear view mirror I can see your house from here.
  24. Always happy to help with an Organissimo-supporting LINK
